The Giropes S.L team has collaborated on an important project with a reputable company. We went to Barcelona to visit Mercabarna, which is the principal fresh food wholesale market in Europe by sales volume. Mercabarna is without doubt Europe’s leading fresh food market, with 2.3 million tons traded per year and a total of 10 million consumers who buy fresh products there. In the last few years, Giropes has been involved in the installation of weighing equipment at several points around Mercabarna, one of these being the fish market. A WPI weighing platform was installed, with folding plate, connected to a GI400i weight indicator with IP65 protection. We made use of the old pit shaft, adapting our stainless steel platform to this structure. This scale model allows the weighing surface and structure to be fully and easily cleaned. The function of the scale is to weigh fish leftovers from all the market’s wholesalers. With a GST1/2 self-service terminal, the different users can be identified with a RFID system. The data is stored using Gestruck Pro software which enables a record to be made of how much waste is deposited (for management and statistical purposes) and to charge for the facilities’ disposal service.
