The Generalitat de Catalunya awarded Giropes a contract worth 2 million euros for the Supply of High-Speed Weighing Stations. This project, promoted by the Direcció General de Trànsit i Mobilitat (DGTM) and framed within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan - Funded by the European Union - NextGenerationEU, aims to create a network of weighing stations in several strategic points of the road network of Catalonia.
This will be the largest deployment of weigh-in-motion (WIM) technology in Europe. The stations will be equipped with advanced Kistler sensors, known for their high accuracy and reliability. These will allow the pre-screening of vehicles that exceed the legally established weight limits, ensuring regulatory compliance. The quartz Lines sensors comply with OIML R134 accuracy standards, accuracy class 2, ensuring reliable results in the measurement of wheel and axle loads.
The company, through its Girwim division, which specializes in weigh in motion, will be responsible for the installation of a complete weighing and analysis system, with the potential to evolve into an automated penalty system for overload violations. The stations will be equipped with ANPR and CCTV cameras, which will capture images of all vehicles in motion, and will be complemented by low-speed weighing systems to penalize those exceeding the permitted limits.
The stations will be located on the AP-7 highway at the following key points:
- Far North: La Jonquera
- North access to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area: La Roca del Vallès
- South access to the Barcelona Metropolitan Area: Martorell
Giropes is proud to contribute to the development of technological solutions that improve road safety and efficiency in the transport of goods.
