Today we present one of the most ambitious and challenging projects in the field of Weigh In Motion (WIM) carried out by Giropes/Girwim in Bolivia: several weight control points distributed along the roads of the Bolivian territory.

The project has been developed with the awarded company Iberian Society of Electrical Constructions, S.A. (ISEC), with which we have installed a total of 3 complete stations for vehicle weight control in the areas of Caracollo, Taracollo and Ocotavi.

The checkpoints are divided into three distinct stages for the detection of infractions related to excess weight and dimensions.

The first (HSW) is a high-speed station using the Datalogger B615, a device designed to perform multiple real-time functions such as collecting, storing and sharing data with multiple devices. This station uses Quarzo sensors with OIML R134 certification.

The installation of sensors and loops in the pavement, as well as license plate reader cameras, allows for a preselection in which, when excess weight is detected in a vehicle, a luminous indicator (Variable Message Panel) located a few meters ahead informs the driver to divert to the second checkpoint.

At the second checkpoint (MSW) the vehicle speed is limited to 40km/h. In addition, a bending plate platform with Datalogger Dyna B615 is linked to a series of devices that perform a second vehicle preselection. The signs will direct the vehicle to rejoin the main road or, in case of a potential violation, to the sanction zone.

Finally, the third (LSW) is an OIML R134 category 0.5B at 10km/h certified weighing set, consisting of an axle weight BPPEM + Datalogger Dyna B615, complemented with 3D scanner, physical and photoelectric barriers, self-service terminal and VMS panel weight repeater. If overweight is detected, the vehicle is directed to the stowage area. There, the vehicle is sanctioned and unloaded. Moreover, the automated system also detects evading vehicles, so that the infrastructure is now safer and protected against overweight and oversized vehicles.

The weight control stations are intended to reduce road risk and maintenance, as well as to increase the useful life and good condition of the roads.
